What is the difference between "grinding" and "crushing" and when do you use which method?
Processing

The use of mills and crushers depends on the subsequent process and the respective bulk material. For boilers, we use mills whereas for flue gas cleaning, we rely on crushing systems.

In the crushing process, the bulk material is crushed by means of blades and subsequently transferred to the downstream system. The average particle size distribution remains nearly unchanged, only the oversize particles are broken up and crushed. STAG lump breakers do not crush foreign bodies such as screws etc., these particles however are likely to cause damage to the machine.

During grinding, the average particle size distribution is changed. The bulk material is processed until the required particle size is achieved. The STAG impact mill also allows foreign bodies to enter and catches them in the downstream foreign body sieve. Therefore, disturbances in the downstream units can be excluded.
