History
Founded in 1954, Schüttgut Technik AG (STAG) has evolved over 70 years from a transport service provider into an internationally active competence center for bulk material handling technology. The four business areas – Projects, Service, Products, and Rail Wagons – cover the entire spectrum from planning and realization to the support of systems.
In developing our products and Service, we focus on the needs of our customers and markets.
STAG is your competence center for all bulk material handling technology.
Schüttgut Technik AG (STAG) was founded in 1954 by Schafir & Mugglin, Hew & Co. Chur, and Stiefel Transport AG in Zurich. Over the past 65 years, the company, which once operated its own truck fleet for the loose transport of cement to large construction sites, has transformed into a highly specialized engineering company.
Today, STAG is an internationally active company in the field of bulk material handling technology. The company is divided into the business areas of Projects, Service, Products, and Rail Wagons.
The Rail Wagons business area is the oldest of these four segments. Since its founding, STAG has been involved in the development of bulk material rail wagons and their unloading. STAG has been operating a Rail Wagon Service at its Sargans site for 20 years.
The Projects business area includes plant construction with selected plant builders or operators in the energy, building materials, and steel industries. The project planning of bulk material handling systems, from concept to turnkey overall plant, was STAG’s core business for decades. For these Projects, new products that were not available on the market were continuously developed. This allowed for the creation of suitable solutions that successfully and sustainably addressed previously unmet customer needs.
The Service business area deals with the support of realized systems. Plant Service, spare parts supply, and the optimization and modernization of systems are combined within this area. The customer, who almost exclusively consists of operators of systems realized by STAG, thus has a single point of contact for all concerns. New customers who have purchased products and systems from competitors are difficult to acquire with this business area alone.
To acquire such new customers, the “Products” business area was launched in 2018. The products developed by STAG over the past decades are to be made available to the market and not exclusively used for its own systems. The long-standing expertise in bulk material handling technology and the existing Service offerings of STAG are an elementary component for success.
In the long term, STAG aims to be perceived as a “competence center for bulk material handling technology.” STAG should develop into a strong brand and consistently align its products and Service with customer needs. Customers must be able to find and orient themselves within the four business areas.
